The New LRTA Head – A Del Pilarian

Reynaldo Berroya MHPHS Class of 1963

Retired PNP general Reynaldo I. Berroya was elected as the new administrator of the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) last January 5, 2017 and officially appointed to the said office four days later.

A member of MHPHS Class 1963, he graduated from the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) in 1969 and started his career in the military. He later transitioned to the Philippine National Police (PNP) as a commander of one of the Presidential Anti-Crime Commission (PACC) anti-kidnapping units in the 90’s. Eventually, he became head of the PNP Intelligence group before becoming director of the Region III PNP.

Rey, as he is known in MHPHS, comes from a family of Del Pilarians: his mother, Adelaida Ignacio Berroya of Class 1941, served the school PTA and alumni association actively in various capacities; his brother Victorio Jr., was valedictorian of Class 1965; his three sisters—Herminiana (Class 1968), Victoria (Class 1970), Adelaida (Class 1973), and Minerva (1975). Their father, Col. Victorio Berroya, Sr., also served as PTA officer for many years.

The legacy building—PTA-Alumni Hall—which the alumni association wants to renovate and convert into a Bahay Alumni and a school museum—is among the projects that the Berroyas worked for and supported wholeheartedly.

After retirement, he held several positions in the government, including as assistant secretary in the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) and chief of the Land Transportation Office (LTO). Prior to his election, he was appointed a member of the LRTA board by President Rodrigo Duterte.
